A funeral service for Dorothy King Jacobs, 88, will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel with Dr. Jeff McDonald and Reverend John Bingham of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Mrs. Jacobs passed away Monday, July 21, 2014 at Nacogdoches Medical Center Hospital. She was born December 29, 1925 in Woden, Texas to James Augustus “Gus” and Minnie Crecelius King. She graduated from Woden High School and went to work for Commercial National Bank.
Soon after her sweetheart, Wayne Jacobs returned from WWII, seriously wounded, the couple married and settled in Nacogdoches. Dorothy was a major factor in Wayne’s successful recovery and was his loving companion, helpmate and business partner until his death in 2009. They were married for 64 years.
A devoted mother, Dorothy was very proud of her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was always ready with praise and loving words. Each son-in-law was quickly welcomed and made a part of Dorothy’s family. After raising her family, Dorothy followed her interest in genealogy and gardening and enjoyed active membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Old South Garden Club. Dorothy was a member of First United Methodist Church and attended the Open Door Sunday School Class and was a member of Circle Seven.
Dorothy is survived by three daughters and sons-in-laws, Sherry Rulfs and husband John, Shela Higley and husband Bill, and Susan Barber and husband Keith all of Nacogdoches; grandchildren Amber Rulfs-Skelton and husband Lee of Forney, Texas, Alecia Rulfs of Nacogdoches, Sara Misencik of New Brighton, PA, Jason Higley of Ambridge, PA, Blake Nelson and wife Morgan of Austin, Texas and Chase Nelson of College Station, Texas; eight great-grandchildren; brother L. J. King and wife Mary Lou of Nacogdoches, sisters-in-law Earline Jacobs of Nacogdoches and Bonnie Jacobs of Woden, Texas and numerous other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by husband, Wayne Jacobs, grandson David Rulfs, parents Gus and Minnie King, sisters Mabel Curtis, Jesse Mae Waracka, Irene Neice, Gussie Dee Smallwood, and brother, James A. King, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Blake Nelson, Chase Nelson, Jason Higley, Lee Skelton, Stephen Jacobs, Larry Jacobs, and Lance Jacobs.
