Davie Lynne (Blacksher) Downs, age 80, of Nacogdoches, Texas passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024, in Nacogdoches. She was born on August 14, 1943, in Nacogdoches to parents Lonzo Herbert Blacksher and Marjorie (Eddings) Blacksher.
Mrs. Downs graduated from Nacogdoches High School, and she received her Bachelor’s Degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. She spent her career as a teacher at Martinsville Elementary School. She enjoyed backyard gardening (both vegetables and flowers), sewing, and cooking for her family for special occasions. She cherished her family traditions, especially at Christmas. Davie was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Nacogdoches.
Mrs. Downs was preceded in death by her parents; grandmother, Martha (Collins) Eddings; sister, Janet (Blacksher) Nolan; and brother-in-law, David Gresham.
She is survived by her husband, Beauford Downs of Nacogdoches; daughter, Traci (Downs) Barnes and husband Kendall of Nacogdoches; son, Keith Downs and wife June of Whitehouse; daughter, Carla (Moore) Henson and husband Ronnie of Nacogdoches; daughter, Rebecca (Moore) West and husband George of Nacogdoches; grandchildren, Sarah (Barnes) Holmes and husband Cullen of Nacogdoches, Marjorie Kristen Barnes of Nacogdoches, Jocelyn Grace Downs of Whitehouse, Caleb Matthew Henson of Nacogdoches, and Janet Kaylynne West of Nacogdoches; great-grandchild, Beau David Holmes of Nacogdoches; sister, Martha (Blacksher) Gresham of Cushing; brother, Lonnie Blacksher and wife Charlotte of Nacogdoches; brother, Anthony Blacksher and wife Sue of Nacogdoches; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, 5400 North Street, Nacogdoches, Texas 75965, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM officiated by Bro. Paul Sevar.
Davie will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park, Nacogdoches, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Charles "Chuck" Gresham, Christopher Andrew Gresham, Matthew Jory Gresham, Anthony Clay Blacksher, Brandon Lonnie Blacksher, and Nicholas Ayres Winder. Honorary pallbearers will be Rhett Gresham, Trey Gresham, and Colton Gresham.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Diabetes Association, or Godtel Ministries.
