John Henry Boersema, age 78, passed away Saturday, Dec. 28, 2019, surrounded by family. He was born on Feb. 4, 1941, to John and Catherine (Petersen) Boersema in Muskegon, MI., and lived here most of his life. He loved motorcycles, racecars, planes, trains, building and flying remote control planes, building fireworks (and we’re not talking the small ones), which gave him his nickname to many “Boomer”. He also loved to hunt and fish, but more than anything he loved his family and his pets. Most of the time you could find him dropping off or picking up his grandkids at their practices or sitting in his van with his dog Maggie Mae by his side watching his grandkids playing sports. He also loved to watch his sports on TV until his team started losing. He loved to go for family rides up M22. John worked several jobs throughout his life, retiring from Knoll. On April 25, 1970, he married Carol Ann (Ackerberg) Boersema and they were married for 27 years; although they divorced, they always remained friends. Together they had 3 children, Polly (Walt) Erickson, John (Annmarie) Boersema and Dan (Kris) Boersema. He also had a daughter from his first marriage Marlene (Mike) Mansfield, and they all survive him along with his grandchildren that were the apples of his eye: Kyle and Justin Erickson; Addison, Courtney, Alaina and Jett Boersema; Olivia Boersema and Michael Malotke, Jr. He is also survived by his brother Raymond Boersema, very close brother-in-law Frank (Terry) Ackerberg and Eloise (Harold) Gundersen; many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends, but most importantly his furry best friend whom he didn’t go anywhere without Maggie Mae. Per John’s wishes cremation will take place. There will be a Celebration of Life (light luncheon) at the White Lakes Eagles, 1204 S. Lake St. Whitehall, MI. 49461, on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2019, from 12:30-3:30pm. For a lasting memorial please consider The American Heart Association or Age Well Services (Meals on Wheels).
