Fred was born April 18, 1939 in Oak Park, Illinois to Frederick Charles Sr. and Margaret Mary (Glafcke) Kidd. In 1966, he met Jean Marie Connolly, the love of his lifetime. The two married in 1968 and began to build their lives and their story; experiencing all of life’s joys and sorrows together until the moment he was called home; she, still by his side.
Two years after marrying, Fred and Jean welcomed Jennifer, the first of their two children. Frederick III was welcomed shortly after and in 1976 together they moved their little family from the Chicagoland area to Spring Lake, Michigan and began to lay their roots.
Fred loved Michigan and his hometown. He loved being surrounded by nature and especially was drawn to the beauty of “The Big Lake”. He adored the sound of his wind chimes coming from its breezes. If asked if he ever missed the city, he was quick to reply with a single “No.” He loved his time as a proud Spring Lake “Laker Dad”, attending all school and sporting activities that he could - often times glued to the end of a 35mm camera. He was a longtime member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church. Fred worked as a successful salesman his entire career. He is mostly remembered by his long tenure with the Brach Candy Company, earring his nickname and trademark vanity license plate, “CandyKidd”.
In his retirement, Fred and Jean enjoyed their time traveling up north would never skip an opportunity for breakfast at the Bluebird. Before the passing of Frank, his younger brother, the two spent countless hours trekking from gun show to gun show hamming it up and amassing a seemingly depthless knowledge of all things guns and firearms. But his utmost joy was found joy spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren Reese, Ellisyn, Ellory, and great-grandson Bailey. You would see the love and pride in his eyes whenever he had everyone “all together.”
To those closest to him, Fred was a man of few words. But he had the gift of gab and demonstrated this by his big smile and ease in conversation when in the company of others. He will be sorely missed and forever loved by his friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Jean; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Marie and Dean Lazowski, son Frederick Charles Kidd III; son Charles David Henegar; sister Marlene (Jim) Emery; brother James (Deborah); grandchildren Reese, Ellisyn, Ellory, Shannon, Michael, and his great-grandson Bailey.
At his request, the family will hold a private funeral service. A celebration of life gathering will be announced at a later date.
