Mrs. Dorothy J. Compton, age 85 passed away on March 3, 2012. She was born on April 14, 1926 in Muskegon, Michigan. Ralph and Laura Boss adopted Dorothy as an infant. She lived most of her life in the Muskegon area. Dorothy married Perry E. Compton and enjoyed married life with him until he preceded her in death on November 13, 1981. Dorothy’s hobbies were quilting, croqueting, genealogy, and traveling. When her sons were young she was a Cub Scout Den Leader. When her daughter was younger she taught sewing and knitting to 4-H girls. Later in life she was a member of VFW ladies Auxiliary Post 7729 and served as president, chaplain and VFW National Home Chairperson. She was retired from the Henry St. K Mart Store. Dorothy is survived by two children, Lloyd (Sandy) Compton and Linda (Ron) Karr; 10 grandchildren; several great-grand and great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Ruth Mosler, Laura (Don) Posthumus, Lola Middlecamp, Loretta Elliot, Waneta (Myrt) Gentry and Tom (Carol) Jewett; daughter-in-law, Sandy Compton sister-in-laws Alma (Dan) Young and Eva Halloday and several nieces and nephews. Along with her husband she was preceded in death by a son, Edwin Compton and adopted sister Grace Evans. Funeral services will be held at the Ever Rest Funeral Home and Chapel at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2012. Visitation will be held at the funeral home today from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation.
