It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved father, David Lee Jones (84), of Whitehall, Michigan, who left us on June 8, 2024. Surrounded by his loving family during his final days. He is survived by his son Brian Jones (Jodie), daughter Amy Zauel (Kevin), grandchildren Natalie Zauel, Rachel Zauel, Julia Zauel, Alyssa Jones, Amanda Jones, Gerad Cook, and Tori Luptowski, great grandchildren Finneus and Evelyn Cook, brother-in-law Bill Bedford, sister-in-law Marge Jones, and many nephews and nieces and their families, who will continue to honor his life and legacy by living their lives to the fullest. He was preceded in death by his wife Sharon Jones, his sister and brother-in-law Nerita and Jim Reinke, his nephew Thomas Reinke, brother Thomas Jones and sister-in-law Kay Bedford.
David, was born to Leland and Norma Jones on June 15, 1939 in Hastings, Michigan. He grew up in Mt. Pleasant Michigan, and was a proud alumni of Central Michigan University, where he met his wife Sharon (Bedford) Jones. They ended up in Whitehall Michigan, and David taught Industrial Arts (wood & metal shop), Auto & Small Engine Shop, Math, Computers, and Drivers Education at Muskegon Orchard View High School for over 33 years. He was also very involved in the White Lake Congregational Church serving in numerous leadership roles, and with the Whitehall Lions Club where he served as President for many years. He and Sharon were heavily focused on family, and supporting their kids’ educations, extra-curricular activities, and sports, spending most evenings and weekends travelling to events and sitting in bleachers. They enjoyed camping and nature and pulled their RV all over the US, Canada, and Mexico. David was also an avid fisherman, spending time with his parents, family, and friends fishing the Great Lakes, and some special trips to Florida, Alaska, and the Northeast. After Sharon’s passing, David continued to camp with his family, spent many winters in Florida, and took some special trips to Hawaii, China, and New York City. Most of all, he spent a lot of time with his family, visiting, attending events and spending holidays with his children and grand-children.
To honor David’s memory, a celebration of life will be held at the White Lake Eagles AERIE 3214, on Saturday June 15, 2024, from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm including a short tribute and prayer, and a light lunch provided. Please feel free to dress casual as this is a celebration, and consider wearing any CMU logo wear, or maroon and gold. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Harbor Hospice or White Lake Congregational Church in David’s name.
