With great sorrow and bittersweet gratitude, the Jones family would like to announce the passing of their mother and grandmother Susan Nelson Blanch. She died unexpectedly on the morning of Saturday, April 15, 2023 at her home in Murrieta, California. She was 73 years old. Her family and friends are deeply saddened and shocked by the news of her sudden death.
Susan is survived by her son Chris Jones and his wife Polly; her grandchildren Casey, Sierra, Jack, and Justin; her sisters Ruth Ann and Jeanne; her nieces Allison and Franny; and her nephew Jake.
Susan was predeceased by her parents Lucile and Clarence Nelson as well as her nephew Tony.
Susan was born on December 8, 1949 in Wesley, Iowa. She was raised on the Nelson family farm outside of town and she attended Bishop Garrigan High School in Algona, Iowa before attending the University of Iowa for her college education. Soon after, she moved to California where she worked in contracting for the U.S. Air Force. Susan remained in California for the rest of her life.
Susan loved to spend time with her family and friends. Her network expanded outward toward the art community in which she devoted countless hours volunteering. She loved attending musical concerts of all genres, attending live stage performances, going to museums, and exploring the history of the community in which she lived. She had an open heart and a genuinely kind and compassionate soul. Susan had an impact on more lives than she realized and will be forever missed by so many.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her name to the services and organizations that she invested in with her time, heart, and soul. Please know that these details will be shared with you by the family as soon as arrangements can be completed.
