Nancy was born to Marian and Leonard Boyd in Chicago, IL. She spent her childhood in Virginia, then went on to study nursing at Johns Hopkins University. Nancy graduated in 1967 and was very proud of her nursing career. Shortly after graduation, she married Steven Zieg, eventually moving to California, where they raised three children.
Nancy loved spending time with her family and friends. In her spare time she enjoyed crafting, making intricate Raggedy Ann dolls for her grandchildren. She enjoyed singing with the Southwest Women’s Chorus in Temecula for many years. More recently, she spent her time painting beautiful watercolors, tending her flowers, watching hummingbirds, and dancing at the winery with the special man in her life, Paul Spurlock.
She had a big heart for all God’s creatures from her beloved pets to bugs, butterflies, birds, and frogs. She’ll be remembered most for the love she had for her family. She spoke proudly of her children and grandchildren and loved spending quality time together. She always knew the right thing to say and was ever supportive and encouraging. Nancy was a loving mother, kindhearted friend, good listener, a person who saw the best in everyone, and one who had the rare quality of complimenting others freely and often. We miss her beyond measure.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Steve. She is survived by her children, Jennifer, David (Melinda), and Robert, her grandchildren, Hannah, Hayden, Zachary, and Sophia, as well her companion, Paul.
The family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or her alma mater, Johns Hopkins University in lieu of flowers.
