Alice Marie McCabe (Zilch) entered into the arms of our Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 21, 2023. Born on Jan 2, 1935, Alice was the oldest of 9 children born in Ridgeway, IL to John and Louise Zilch. She spent her youth helping her parents with her 8 younger siblings and helping on the family farm. Alice attended Sisters of Norte Dame convent in St. Louis, Missouri during her freshman and sophomore years of high school. She returned to her hometown for her final two years and graduated in 1952 from Ridgeway High School.
On August 24, 1957 Alice was married to Pat McCabe in Ridgeway, Illinois. Just one year later their first born daughter Theresa was born in 1958. Soon after, Tony was born in 1959, and Cathy in 1961. After Cathy was born, Alice and Pat moved to California. Once in California, they welcomed Joe into the family in 1963 and next came Cindy in 1965. 12 years later they had Lisa in 1976.
Alice and Pat settled in Diamond Bar, California in 1965, where they lived for over 50 years and attended St. Dennis Church. Alice volunteered weekly at St. Dennis and spent over 30 years running the meetings for the Theresians of Diamond Bar. Alice was also on the National Executive Board for the Theresians of America. In 1990, Alice went back to school at the age of 55. She received her Paraprofessional Certificate in Education. She became an integral part of the Special Education Department for Pomona Unified School District. She retired at age 75. After her retirement, Alice and Pat spent many years traveling and spending summers at the lake in Kentucky.
Alice’s greatest joy in life was her family. She spent all of her free time taking care of her grandchildren, traveling with her husband, and hosting her famous family dinners for every occasion. She is survived by her husband Pat of 66 years, 6 children, 18 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Alice had a life full of faith, family, and friends. She was a devoted Catholic, wife, mother, and grandmother. Her legacy will live on through all of those who knew and loved her.
