John Laurence Flach, born August 24, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on July 15, 2024, holding his beloved wife Tina's hand. A miracle baby to Alfred and Ann Flach, John's arrival was a blessing to his older parents, who dreamed he might one day become a priest. While he did not choose to become a priest, he did choose a path marked by love, laughter, compassion, and an insatiable curiosity for life.
John's early years were steeped in the warmth of his devoutly Catholic family, including his older siblings, Rosemary Saunders and Fred Flach. Despite the profound loss of his parents at a very young age, John carried forward their legacy of faith and resilience. He graduated from a Catholic school, a testament to the strong foundation they had laid for him.
The 1960s saw John embrace the spirit of the times, traveling and experiencing the vibrant hippie culture. This adventurous phase eventually led him to Tennessee in the 1970s, where he found his true calling: building a loving family.
John dedicated for 28 years to his professional life to Aladdin as a forklift operator, a career from which he retired with pride and satisfaction. Outside of work, John's passions were as varied as they were profound. He had a deep love for movies and music, always eager to try new foods and spend quality time with his family. His compassion for animals was legendary, and his home was often a haven for pets of all kinds.
Known for his quick wit and infectious humor, John had a unique ability to make everyone around him laugh. His sense of humor and generous spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Above all, his wife Tina was his greatest source of joy and strength, a constant companion whose love and support meant the world to him.
John is survived by his loving wife Tina Flach, his cherished daughters Gretchen Hampton (spouse Aaron), Sarah Blue, Amanda Hampton (spouse Kendall), Samantha Chambers (spouse Joe), and Tessa Taylor (spouse Austin), and his adored grandchildren John Jr. Blue, Jesse Hampton, Marianne Hampton, Luke Hampton, Emma Hampton, Brody Lassiter, and Kathryn Hampton. He also leaves behind his dear sister Rosemary Saunders, brother Fred Flach, and several nieces and nephews.
John Flach's life was a testament to love, resilience, and the joy of living each day to its fullest. His legacy of laughter, compassion, and adventurous spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. He touched countless souls with his warm smile, nonjudgmental advice, and unwavering support. To know John was to experience a breath of fresh life, a comforting presence, and a friend more loyal and wise than any could imagine. His story is one that will be cherished and shared endlessly, for the world would indeed be a much better place if everyone had a John.
In honoring John's memory, the family kindly requests donations be made to a local animal shelter in lieu of flowers, reflecting his lifelong love and advocacy for animals.
