Charles David Harmon, age 89, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, Tennessee. Mr. Harmon was the son of the late Merrill and Mary Yearwood Harmon. He is survived by his wife, Cecilia Vinyard Harmon; sons, Chris Harmon and his wife Cris and Tim Harmon and his wife Shannon; grandchildren, Brooks Harmon, Delaney Harmon and Mabry Harmon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Delores Jean Buechler and Brenda Bickmore.
Charles was saved at the age of 7, 1941. He grew up in the town of Roxana, IL, where he attended First Baptist Church of Roxana and attended and graduated from Roxana High School in 1952. He held various jobs until he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He most notable was working at Boeing on the F2H Banshee Fighter production.
Charles serviced his country in the U.S. Army, when he was drafted in August of 1956 and Honorably Discharged in August of 1958. After serving his country, Charles worked in various fields. He was hired by United Van Lines in Fenton, MO in January of 1966 until his retirement in January of 2000. He worked as a Rates and Tariffs Supervisor for Government and Military moves and relocations.
Charles met his future wife, Cecilia Vinyard, in their hometown of Roxana. They were married on August 5, 1967. They were married 55 years. They were an example to their family of how a marriage is to be and work. Charles so enjoyed being with his family. When his boys were growing up, he spent many times in the backyard playing baseball or football, played board games of all kinds on Friday and Saturday nights, and taking his family to the movies and watching and going to see his favorite team play baseball, the St. Louis Cardinals. He also loved to travel and go on family vacations, notably California and Washington, D.C.
Charles also served the Lord through his local church, First Baptist Church of Fenton, MO. He served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Director, and visitation team. He had the privilege of leading both his sons to salvation in the Lord. He was a mentor to many in the church. He is now able to worship and serve the Lord in peace in Heaven for all eternity.
A Celebration of Life will be held on the afternoon of Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 2:30pm at Belle Aire Baptist Church, 1307 N. Rutherford Boulevard, Murfreesboro, Tennessee 37130. Those wishing to attend are invited to begin arriving at 2:00pm. The family will be available to speak with following the service.
