Mary Elizabeth Hattaway, 69, of Indianapolis, passed away unexpectedly due to a medical condition, on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis. She was born on May 8, 1955, in Beech Grove, Indiana, to Kenneth Leon and Della Jane (Robinson) Black.
Mary attended Martinsville High School where she was an avid band member and competed in the marching band. She graduated from there in 1973.
Mary lived most of her adult life in Muncie, Indiana where she was well known as the head receptionist at American Chevrolet. Many will tell you that she was always so welcoming with her big smile when you walked through the front door. She worked there for over 20 years before retiring.
She was a selfless, giving, Christian woman who had a passion for baking, cooking, and all things craft related. Giving homemade goods is how she showed her love for those around her. She was a devoted mother of two and a proud Nana to six grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her two loving children, Joseph "Joe" (Andrea) Parker and Mary "Amanda" (Thor) McElfresh; she was known as Nana to her six grandchildren, Lucas Parker, Logan Parker, Elizabeth "Lizzy" McElfresh, Kellie McElfresh, Kenzi McElfresh, and Noah McElfresh; siblings, Andy (Mary) Black, Madonna (Mike) Kukman, Alex Black, and Eric Black; her boyfriend, Alfonso "Al" Passariello; as well as many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A funeral service will take place on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 11:30 am, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 W. Kilgore Ave., Muncie, IN 47304, with Pastor Stephanie Niemoeller officiating. Burial will follow the service in Black Cemetery, N Black Cemetery Rd, Albany, Indiana 47320. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, December 20, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
