Obituary of Gary Truman Helton
Gary Truman Helton, 75, Muncie, passed away Sunday evening, May 2, 2021, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born Friday, April 12, 1946, in Powell County, Kentucky, the son of Avery and Hazel (Tester) Helton. Gary was a wonderful husband, dad, and papaw. He was a kind, generous, and hardworking man with a keen sense of humor. Gary loved his family and cherished his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing, as well as painting and drawing. Gary drove a truck for Braun Trucking for twenty-five years and worked as a mold maker for Dayton Walther Manufacturing for twenty-six years before retiring. Survivors include his wife, Earlene (Stephens) Helton; children, Tony (wife, Kim) Wouster, Gary T. “Bo” Helton Jr., Tammy Helton, Bruce Smith, and Scotty Helton; grandchildren, Anthony Wouster, Emily (husband, James) Brown, Andrea (husband, Joseph) Libretto, Hattie Smith, and Gracie Smith; one brother, Wilford Helton; several nieces and nephews; and his canine companion, Lily. His parents, Avery and Hazel Helton; brothers, Eugene Helton, Alton Helton, and Emery Helton; sisters, Thelma Faulkner, and Juanita Sizemore; and a grandson, Stephen Michael Smith, preceded him in death. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 10, 2021, at Lifepoint Church, 3100 East McGalliard Road, Muncie, Indiana 47303, with Pastor Joey Prewitt officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park. Family and friends may call from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 2021, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304 or after 10:00 a.m. Monday at church.
