He was born Friday, November 5, 1937, in Muncie, the son of William and Mable (Cowan) Lephart. David graduated from Muncie Central High School. He joined the United States Navy in 1955 and served until 1958. David was then employed at Borg Warner for over thirty-nine years as a pipe fitter and retired in 1998. He enjoyed fishing, and playing cards, especially with family. He was very talented at making beautiful pieces of woodworking items. David was a member of the Harris Chapel Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mable Lephart; four sisters, Thelma Lephart, Doris Lephart, Audrey Beal, and Norma Craig; nine brothers, Floyd Lephart, Ivan Lephart, Earl Lephart, Ernest Lephart, Roy Lephart, James Lephart, Harold Lephart, Carl Lephart, and Don Lephart; brothers-in-law, Bob Craig, Richard Beal, and Don Huxhold; and a sister-in-law, Precilla Lephart.
He is survived by his wife of over sixty-three years, Greta (Rozell) Lephart; son, David Jeffery (wife, Patty) Lephart; daughter, Brenda Lephart-Slate; brother, Fred Lephart; sister, Carol Francis Huxhold; sisters-in-law, Gayle Lephart, Ruth (partner, Tom) Lephart, and Ila (husband, Fred) Lephart; grandchildren, Adam Lephart, Monica Kerr, Erin Gregory, Natalie Wills and Allie Slate; great-grandchildren, Case Lephart, Anna Lephart, Cash Lephart, Carson Kerr, Colton Kerr, Jamie Gregory, Caleb Gregory, and Nolan Gregory; and several nieces and nephews.
David was a wonderful husband, dad, brother, grand pa, great grand pa, and God loving man and will be missed by too many to name.
The family wants to thank the wonderful nurses and caregivers at Morrison Woods who were so kind to him during his stay there.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304 with Rev. Jim Ballenger officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Ridge Memorial Park with Military Rites conducted by the Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Elm Ridge Funeral Home.
