He was born Monday, January 8, 1923, in Minor Hill, Tennessee, the son of Tom and Lena Jane (Staggs) Davis. He married Mary on January 31, 1942. He proudly served in the United States Army during WW II in the 400th Armored Battalion. He was decorated with the EAME Theater Ribbon with five Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. Cecil served in five major battles and was a Sharpshooter.
Cecil worked at Ball Brothers for forty-nine years, retiring as Plant Superintendent of Sealant Production for Ball home canning lids. He and his wife owned the D & J family restaurant in Winchester, Indiana. His memberships include the Winchester Lion’s Club and he was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He was a member of Garden at Gethsemane United Methodist Church in Muncie.
Survivors include his son, Howard (wife, Carolyn) Davis; and his daughter, Sheila (husband, Jim) Ponder; grandchildren, Todd (Megan) Davis, LeAnn (Jon) Callahan, Chad (Peggy) Davis, Mike (Kelly) Ponder, Keri (Bruce) Wiemer, Heidi (Dr. Jim) Ong, James (Heather) Ponder, Stephanie (Morgan) Lang, Scott (Lori) Davis, Eric (Adeline) Davis, and Stacy Davis; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
His parents, Tom and Lena Jane Davis; his wife, Mary Helen Davis; a son, Tom Davis; and a grandson, Michael Davis preceded him in death.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2021 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie. The Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard will conduct graveside Military Rites.
