Was thinking about you today Unc, we spent weeks & months working on my truck in that little garage. I enjoyed every busted knuckle, bruise and the face full of transmission fluid & noise complaint from the neighbors at 2 am. I still close my eyes  & can smell the trans fluid  lol. The days we sat around playing games on the Commodore 64, just generally having fun.

I wasn’t home when you passed, I lost a best friend, a Uncle & a older brother on that day.

it hardly seems like he's gone. i do miss him dearly. he'll always be a part of my heart. my heart goes out to his family because i know loved him more then i ever could and will miss him more too. love ginny

I have so many memories, which one to write down here is hard.I will miss all the long talks we had, on life. The BBQ's we had, The times when we would laugh about things that had happened in the past.Going to Ryans, and watching movies. I also remember when dad took Amiee and I to Disney World,to this day I always treasures that time. I love you Dad.....and I will miss you forever.

My prayers go out to each and everyone who loved Russell Koonce.  He will truly be missed by so many people.  I was a little girl when I met him. His daughter Aimee is a close and dear friend to me.  I remember going to spend the weekend with Aimee at her Dad's house.  He always had a smile on his face.  He was one of the nicest people I knew.  He knew how to get his point across without being angry or ugly about it.  This one particular weekend, Aimee and I had snuck around her bedroom to smoke a cigarette.  We knew we would be in big trouble if her Dad found out but we did it anyways.  Well...her Dad came knocking at the door and when he came in all he said was..."It's a little smoky in here girls..." and he walked away.  We knew he could have punished Aimee and made me go home but he didn't.  He didn't have to raise his voice to get his point across to us.    We knew we had disappointed him and that was bad enough.  

To Ricky and Aimee, your Dad loved you and was very proud of you both. You were his life!  

Mr. Russell, may you ride past the Pearlie Gates of Heaven on your Harley like the Freebird you are!  Rock on!

Russell was a careing man  who had trouble showing it. But he will be loved and by me and all who knew him. Virginia M. Hyatt (girlfriend and caregiver)

Russell Koonce was my grandfather. Some of my fondest childhood memories were the weekends I spent with him. Every morning started with a big hug and a kiss on each cheek. He said you could never start the day without those two. My grandfather had a magic ability to connect with animals. We would sit on his front porch and he would simply hold his hand out and sure enough, within seconds, either a bird, dragonfly, or some other form of wildlife would perch right on his finger. We would also light fireworks (sparklers were my favorite) every night. There never had to be a special occasion for fireworks...we were the special occasion. I am proud to carry the last name and pass on some of the fun traditions with my daughter. He will be greatly missed!
