Mrs. Eddie Glen Kelley was born in Ragley on October 15, L929 to Edward and Exie (McConathy) Reeves. She was raised in Ragley and attended Ragley High School. She was baptized at an early age in the creek near Magnolia Baptist Church by Brother Beck and was a member there until her death.
In February 1946 she married Hatton W. Kelley upon his return from World War ll. They settled at Gillis for several years, then moved to Lake Charles and finally to Westlake where she was residing at the time of her death. They were the parents of three daughters.
Mrs. Kelley was a homemaker throughout her life. As a young married woman with a family, she would sew, knit, crochet, quilt and can vegetables.
Her nieces and nephews always wanted her to cook biscuits and beans for them. As her daughters grew up, her home usually had one or two extra young people hanging out frequently. Even after her children had left home, it was not unusual to have one of their friends stop by to visit. Throughout her life she enjoyed fishing. Her last trip was to Fausse Pointe State Park in 2009 for her 8Oth birthday where she fished every day. Before she became ill and unable to travel, she enjoyed going to hear gospel singing and cemetery hopping, searching for family history.
Mrs. Kelley was preceded in death by her husband Hatton W. Kelley; her parents Edward and
Exie Reeves; three brothers Georgie, Sammy and Edward Reeves and one sister Maxie Reeves. She is
survived by her three daughters Brenda Kelley, Patsy Kelley Parker, Peggy Kelley and Kirk Kelley, a nephew she claimed as her own who gave her the nickname "Gen"; two sisters Mrs. Elizabeth Meadows of DeRidder and Mrs. Evon Lambert of Ragley; one brother-in-law Gerald Lambert of Ragley; and two sisters-in-laws Mrs. Shirley Reeves of Kountze, Texas and Mrs. Elizabeth Kelley of Mableton, Georgia.
The family would like to thank the many friends, neighbors and loved ones who have made this journey with us.
We wish to thank her church family at Magnolia Baptist Church in Ragley for their faithfulness in prayers, visits, cards, calls and their special Christmas caroling trip to Westlake which gave her such joy. We also want to especially thank our pastor, Rev. Mike Sanford, for his attentiveness and our deacon and his wife Mr. Mark and Billie Sandel for their love and support. Our mother desperately missed being able to go to church and your keeping her connected meant so much to her.
We wish to thank our Heart of Hospice family as well for their care and support throughout the past year including our aide Jennifer Fuselier, our nurse Christina Domingue, our social worker Virgie Smith and our chaplain Rev. Paul Estes. We also thank the other nurses who helped us so much during this time: Sarah, Robert, Mary, Petra, Caroline and Jessie.
Throughout our father’s final illness and our mother’s need of respiratory therapy, at least thirteen years, we have had one consistent home health service provider who became a friend and a part of our family Mr. Damon Anderson. Damon, we thank you so much for your care and love of our mother. And to Tim who recently joined us, we thank you for your faithfulness and consideration.
We want to thank Dr. Robert Craig Broussard, his nurse Stacey, and all of the folks at Pulmonary Associates who took such good care of our mother through the years. We also want to thank Dr. Mary
Sherk of The Clinic and her nurse Brandi and Dr. Stacy McBroom and her nurse Beverly of Urology
Associates for their kind and patient help over these past few years. Your help and support made it possible for our mother to stay at home in her declining years. We would also like to thank our friends Danny and Jerrold from CVS Moss Bluff for their kind support through the years.
Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff is in charge of the arrangements which include visitation on Thursday, March 24th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be Friday, March 25 at Magnolia Baptist Church in Ragley at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Mike Sanford presiding. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
