WILLIAM “BILL” CONNER McCONNELL, passed away peacefully at his home on September 5, 2012, after a battle with Bulbar Onset ALS (an aggressive form of Lou Gehrig’s disease). He was born March 23, 1929 in Hawkins County to Dave and Maxie Quillen McConnell. He worked in the printing business most of his life in Kingsport and Morristown. He loved gardening and he shared his home with his beloved dog, Baxter. He was preceded in death by his wife; Mildred Lawson McConnell, brothers; Mervin and Frank McConnell. Bill, known as Conner to his family is survived by his son; Larry McConnell of Bean Station, sisters; Geraldine Deitch and Beverly (William) Garber of VA and sister-in-law; Sue Corley of Dandridge. Other survivors include his nieces; Brenda (Don) Moyer of MD, Linda (Gregg) Sites of PA and Jorinda Garber of DC. They became caregivers along with his sister Beverly. Parkway Baptist Church will miss a faithful member and devoted deacon. He was a member of the Kingsport Masonic Lodge # 688 for over 50 years and the Kerbella Temple of Knoxville. Bill was a Shrine van driver and volunteer for Amedisys Hospice for many years and continued until April of this year. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 7, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. on the chapel of Stubblefield Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Russell, Rev. Gary Biggs and the Rev. Garland Long officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2012 in Oak Hill Cemetery in Kingsport for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 7, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. The staff of Amedisys Hospice aspired to Excellence in their care and loving support, especially Christy, Garrett, Michelle, Garland and Dr. Rual Swanson. Thanks to Dr. Peter Sutherland and his staff. Thanks to Tom and Barbara Ketchum for their support as good friends and caregivers.
