Janice was born July 23, 1937 in Morristown, Hamblen County to Swann Lillard and Fannie Felknor Lillard. She was married to the late Roger Adkins.
Besides her former husband, she was preceded in death by her father, Swann Lillard; her mother, Fannie Felknor Lillard; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Lillard and an infant daughter, Swannanna Adkins.
Janice graduated from Morristown High School and furthered her education at Carson-Newman College, where she received her bachelor’s degree in teaching. After 40 years of service in public education, Janice retired from The National Education Association, The Tennessee Education Association and The Hamblen County Education Association. She was a member of the Samuel Doak Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served as Regent. She was also a member of the General Federated Women’s Club in Morristown. Ms. Adkins was a lifetime member of The First Baptist Church in Morristown.
Janice is survived by an aunt, Edna Felknor Gray; special cousins, Jason Pack and wife, Martha, Sarah Elizabeth Pack, James Noah Pack and Rebecca Caroline Pack and a host of other cousins; a special friend and caregiver, Sheila Wisecarver; caregiver, Sharon Long and friends, Marion Keith and Carol Peterson who also assisted her during her illness.
Graveside service will be held on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 3 p.m. in Hamblen Memory Gardens with the Rev. Danny Georges officiating.
Pallbearers will be Scott Felknor, Randy Felknor, Don Gray, Edgar Gray, Mark Price and Clay Robertson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
