Rev. Lander "Lc" Corpening Jr.

He was born the late Lander Corpening, Sr., and Hattie Mae Hunter Corpening on May 28, 1954 in Burke County.

Lander was a graduate of Oak Hill High School, and a 1976 graduate of Winston Salem State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. Lander began his corrections career in 1978 as a correctional officer at Western Youth Institution in Morganton. He served in many capacities and rose through the ranks of the North Carolina Department of Corrections, ultimately serving as the Assistant Superintendent at Avery/Mitchell, and as Superintendent of Foothills Correctional in Morganton. Lander served as a Past Worshipful Master of Queen of The West Masonic Lodge #70, and a Shrine member at Gizeh Temple #162 Asheville.

Having been steeped in Church service and gospel music by his family, especially by his grandfather “Papa Rob” Hunter , and having served in music ministry for 30 years, Lander entered full time ministry in 2008 at his beloved Shiloh A.M.E. Church. He served as Pastoral Associate at Shiloh prior to accepting his first Pastoral position at Hartland A.M.E. Church, Morganton. He later served as Pastor of Mission A.M.E. Morganton, and Harvey Chapel A.M.E. Hillsborough.

In addition to his parents, LC was preceded in death his brother James Edward Corpening, and nephews Maurice Avery, and Preston Ervin.

Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 39 years Mary Lynette Corpening, sons; Michael “Chip” Lewis, Brodus “BJ” Jackson, and daughter; Miranda Jackson, 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, also surviving include his sisters; Geneva C. Avery, Carol Jean Ervin (Waddell) and Estile Corpening, aunt; Rev. Anne Belle Corpening, Godmother Ms. Jessie Martin, special cousin and caregiver Louie Corpening, Father and Mother in Ministry, Rev. Dr. H.S. Williams and Rev. Lula Williams.

Funeral Services for Rev. Lander "LC" Corpening will be held Wednesday, June 01, 2022 in the chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home of Morganton at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 31, 2022 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Shiloh A.M.E. Church Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Wayne A. Johnson, Sr., Officiating
