Donald Eugene Thomas 76 of Morganton, North Carolina entered into Heaven’s Gates on Wednesday September 8, 2021 at his home on 2645 NC 126 Morganton, N.C. Donald Eugene Thomas was born February 23,1945 in Burke County to the late Preston Otis and Essie Lee Thomas.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his sister Agnes Deloris McDowell and a sister Laura Lynn Thomas. Also a sister-in-law Patricia Ervin. Donald leaves behind his sweet loving wife Brenda Ervin Thomas of 25 years to cherish their precious memories together.
Mr. Donald Eugene Thomas was a loving devoted husband, father, grandfather. He leaves three living children; Donald Eugene(Anita)Thomas Jr.,Pamela Thomas Agostini ,Tamela(Willie)Weatherall and six grandchildren; Kiran, Bianka, Asriel LaQuay, Briaunna LaTori, Chloe LaShonda and Dominisha Leanae. One great-grand child; Zion McKinley. A host of Great-Neices and Great-Nephews, cousins, friends.
Donald leaves two living brothers; Preston(Mary) Thomas and Jerry (Christine) Thomas, two living sisters: Carolyn (John)Cantrell, F.L. Venus(Pastor Mike)Mathes, a sister Peggy Hodge, Nephew(Mandrel) And Three Sister-in-laws; Alma(Charles)Wakefield Vanessa Davis, Jeanie(Ivory)Fowler. One Aunt Nora Thomas Woodrum.
Donald completed his education at Olive Hill High School with his diploma in 1963 in Morganton, NC. He then entered the United States Army on November 4, 1964 where he proudly served until April 1, 1973 with Honorable Discharge. He then worked for Great Lakes Carbon Plant in Morganton, N.C. then pursued his dream of becoming an Independent Truck Driver. He drove long distance trips across many states which he enjoyed. His CB Handle was (Silver Duck) all truckers knew him. Donald delivered freight for Swift Trucking Co. and Sunco Carriers Inc. until he retired.
Donald was an active member of Mt. Herman AME Church where he was raised from a child. He taught Sunday School, sung in Mens Choir, Church Delegate, a Steward, Treasurer. He was an active member of The Union Fellowship (Asst.Treasurer). Donald loved the Lord, his Church, family, friends. He supported and attended many church functions and was very loyal, a helping hand to everyone in need.
A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 13, 2021 in the chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home of Morganton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home, burial will follow at Mt. Herman AME Church Cemetery.
