David McClellan Jr., age 86, of Morganton, North Carolina passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024. David was born in Mitchell County on September 4, 1938 to the late David McClellan Sr. and the late Molly King McClellan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his eleven beloved brothers, sisters and numerous friends and family who greeted him at Heaven's Gate.
David loved his family, his beautiful wife, Sarah, children and grandchildren dearly. He always looked after his family no matter the cost. He was gentle, caring, loving, smart, strong, bold, fun, handsome, sweet, thoughtful, a prayer warrior and most importantly, a Godly man. He knew how to reach the throne room of Heaven when we asked for prayer. He loved his church and served faithfully as a deacon for nearly 50 years, a Sunday school teacher, a builder, custodian and filled many roles at First Assembly of God-Morganton (FAM).
On the morning that David passed, his pastor encouraged the family by sharing with them that if David could have chosen a day to go Home, it would have been a Sunday. David's passing at 3:00 am marked the time when Hebrew tradition says that the face of God the Father is closest to Earth. On this Sunday, FAM Church saw record numbers in attendance and baptisms. This simply would not have been possible without the faithfulness of David.
David worked for Drexel Heritage as a Master Carver for 43 years. He enjoyed hunting for and working on classic cars with his son.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 63 years, Sarah, of the home, daughter, Sherry Young (Robbie) of Morganton, son, Jason McClellan (Beth) of Morganton, grandchildren, Erin Smith (Ryan) of Asheville, Emily Dolphens (Drew) of Hickory, Luke McClellan of Austin, Tx, Kelsey Smith of Morganton, great-grandchildren, Emma and Arlo Smith of Asheville.
A Celebration of Life for David will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 4:00 pm at FAM Church in Morganton with Pastor John White and Pastor Lee Russell officiating.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to FAM Church (Children's Ministry) at 1955 US Hwy 70 Morganton, NC 28655 or to Carolina Caring Hospice at 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
Kirksey Funeral Home is honored to serve the McClellan Family.
