Charles Carter, age 78, of Morganton, NC, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, in Valdese, NC, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Carter was born on August 24, 1938, in Burke Co., NC, to the late Joseph Carter, Sr. and Fannie Pearson Carter.
He was a member of Slades Chapel AME Zion Church in Morganton. Mr. Carter was retired, and had previously been a custodian at Grace Episcopal Church. He was known for his love of cleaning, and his happy and upbeat personality. Mr. Carter could always be found talking and joking around with friends and family. He loved to tell tall tales and reminisce about the old days and share the memories of good times with the ones he loved.
Mr. Carter also loved to eat and really enjoyed the holidays and family time. He especially enjoyed the Christmas season and decorating his house. He loved his family very much and they will miss him terribly.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his sister, Annie Williams; and four brothers, Willie, Joseph Jr., Richard and Hugh Carter.
Surviving Mr. Carter are his best friend, Aline Avery, her children and grandchildren, all of Morganton, NC; sons, Charles Carter, Jr., and Ronnie Carter, both of Columbus, OH; daughter, Elizabeth (Tim) Dewberry, of Columbus, OH; brothers, Robert (Jean) Carter, Harold Carter, and Rev. Herbert (Maryann) Carter, all of Morganton, NC; sisters, Edith Gore of Hickory, NC, Elizabeth (Buford) Brown of Spindale, NC and Kaye (Clarence) Griffin, of Morganton, NC; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Friends are welcome to call on the family at the home of Harold Carter at 206 South Anderson St., Morganton, NC.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 2:00 PM, at Slades Chapel AME Zion Church, in Morganton, NC with Dr. Andrew Smoke officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Forest Hill Cemetery in Morganton.
