Barbara was a woman of faith. She enjoyed reading and movies in the "True Crime and Mystery" categories. Barbara liked tending to her flower garden and watching them grow. She was a long-time volunteer and later an employee of Burke United Christian Ministries. Barbara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be missed.
Along with her parents, Barbarba is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Wendy Ann Philyaw, and a sister, Debra Vines.
Those left behind to cherish Barabara include her husband Mark David Mathis of the home; three children, Linda Whitesman (Eddie), David Philyaw, Jr. (Ann) and Trisha Smith (Cynthia); six siblings, Kathy Burns (Nokie), Karen Leonard (Benny), Bonnie Triplett, Kenny Vines (Tina), Joey Vines and Jerry Wright (Marie).
She is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 29, 2023 in the chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to Amorem Hospice of Hudson.
Kirksey Funeral Home of Morganton has the honor of serving the family.
