Audrey Elizabeth Propst

Audrey’s bravery and adventurous spirit were evident early in her long life. At the age of 10, she moved halfway across the world to join relatives that had relocated to New Zealand. She quickly adjusted to her new home and became a proud Kiwi for life. In Christchurch, she met a U.S. Air Force airman from North Carolina named Clyde Propst and their love blossomed into marriage. Four sons followed and Audrey devoted her life to raising her family and caring for them. She thoroughly enjoyed her time as an Air Force wife, particularly six years in England where a core group of Audrey’s relatives remained. After her husband retired from the Air Force in 1974, the Propst family relocated to western North Carolina near Clyde’s family.

Audrey never lost her English / Kiwi accent or her zest for life. She had enormous compassion for people, and could talk to anyone from a stranger on the street to the Queen of England (she remained an avid royalist all her life). Audrey also developed a keen interest in real estate and acquired rental properties in the U.S. and New Zealand. She did not have “tenants”, she had friends who lived in her properties. Audrey loved to travel and would balance time between North Carolina and New Zealand, conveniently avoiding the winters in both locations.

Audrey was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Propst and her oldest son Stephen Propst. She is survived by her sons Craig (Marthita), Anthony (Wendy), and Nicholas Propst, by her grandchildren Bela, Elena, Ami, Pierce, Preston, and Sisa Propst, by her siblings Barry (Susan) Hart, Marilyn Fulham, Ian (Rhonda) Fulham, Marcia Fulham, and Janice Fulham, and by countless friends who brightened her life for 88 years.

A Celebration of Audrey’s Life will be held at Burke Memorial Park on Saturday, December 21st at 10 a.m., followed by lunch. Audrey will be buried next to her beloved husband Clyde. Together forever, and never to part…..
