Guy Thomas Rankin Sr., 88, a native of Throckmorton, TX and a resident of Morgan City passed away Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Teche Regional Medical Center.
Guy is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Joyce M. Anderson Rankin of Morgan City; two sons, Guy Thomas Rankin Jr. and his wife, Pam, of Morgan City, and Jackie Harrell Rankin and his wife, Linda, of Morgan City; one daughter, Pamela Joyce Rankin of Morgan City; two brothers, Robert Benjamin Rankin of Throckmorton, TX., and Larry Lloyd Rankin of Houston, TX.; two sisters, Mary Lou Harvick of Throckmorton, TX., and Marjory Lynn Brown of Wichita Falls, TX.; eight grandchildren, Tammie Rankin, Melinda Busse, Jamie Lancon, David Rankin, Donald Plessala, Sherrie Evett, Kevin Rankin, and Jaclyn Rankin; 14 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jackson Arledge Rankin; his mother, Lula Powell Whitby Rankin; two brothers, George C. Rankin, and Jack W. Rankin; and two sisters, Linda R. Key and Peggy R. Odom.
Guy moved to Morgan City in 1960 with the Oilfield. In his later years, Guy established Rankin Jewelry & Loan, a business which he owned for over 30 years. While managing his business, Guy earned the respect of Morgan City citizens by assisting his customers with his big heart. An avid musician who could play multiple instruments, Guy was a member of Morgan City’s “Big Band Sound” and M.C.H.S. Band Boosters. Guy’s great enjoyment was fishing. A dedicated family man, Guy was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.
The family requests that visitation be observed Monday, March 4, 2013 from 9:00 am until time of services at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City.
Funeral Services for Guy will be held Monday, March 4, 2013 at 1:15pm at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City with dismissal taking place at 2:00pm.
Graveside services will follow in the Morgan City Cemetery with the East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad rendering military honors.
