Fernand “Fert” Daigle, Jr., a lifelong resident of Morgan City, passed away January 21, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 86.
Fert was a hard working man who was honest about all he did. He worked for Shell Oil until starting Daigle Boat Rental, a company which provided tugs and barges to the oil industry for many years.
Fert served his country in the Navy during World War II; he was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
Fert enjoyed the outdoors as a hunter and fisherman, and always kept an amazing vegetable garden. He especially enjoyed cooking for others, and hosting get togethers at his home for fish frys and seafood boils.
Fert is survived by his wife of 4 years, Janet B. Daigle of Morgan City; his three sons: William “Billy” Daigle and wife Gail of Chesapeake, Va., Lanny Daigle and wife Katie of Baton Rouge and Jerry Daigle and wife Jean of Abbeville; his brother Robert “Bobby” Daigle and wife Shirley; his sisters: Mary D. Halter and Helen D. Eschette and a sister-in-law Aline Mayon. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Rachael Holmes, Sylvia Frazier, Angie Welch, Amie Melancon and Jarret Daigle as well as his great grandchildren: Courtney, Kaylee and Gracie Holmes; Bailey and Brody Welch; Austin and Trevor Frazier; and Nathan Melancon and many nieces and nephews.
Fert was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Rilma Jarrett Daigle, his father and mother Fernand and Annie Tenney Daigle, his brother Ralph Daigle his sisters Vivian Peltier, Violet Foreich, Justine “Teeny” Bridget Smith and Annie Marie Shely.
Pallbearers will be Roy Simoneaux, Irving Courtney, Eldridge “Tot” Williams, John Myers, Derek Jarrett, and Jarret Daigle.
A time of remembrance and reflection will be on Wednesday January 26, 2011 at Hargrave Funeral Home beginning at 6 P.M. until 9 P.M. The 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will conduct a Rosary service at----P.M. Wednesday . Visitation will resume on Thursday January 27, 2011 at Hargrave Funeral Home at 9 A.M. until dismal at 10:30 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Cross Catholic Church. The East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad will conduct full military graveside honors at the Morgan City Cemetery.
