Kay Roberta Malone Burns passed peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones on March 2, 2023. Kay was born in Hollywood, California on May 13, 1938. As part of a military family, she resided in Washington DC, Montgomery Alabama, Dayton Ohio, Holland, France, and Spain, before coming back “home” to California for good in 1961. Kay was a devoted school teacher for the Perris Elementary School District, retiring after 30 years. During this time, Kay met her soulmate Tim Burns and together they taught side-by-side, making a difference for thousands of children. Kay and Tim celebrated 39 years of marriage this year.
Kay loved to travel, and whether visiting the Great Wall of China, cruising the Danube on her 80th birthday, or sitting inches away from large iguanas on the beaches of Costa Rica, she never shied away from an adventure. Kay’s ideal paradise was a white sandy beach and a coastal view. She loved her family, her friends, and year after year looked forward to special occasions and holidays to celebrate with them. She loved animals and surrounded herself with pets her entire life. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she impacted the lives of those she loved beyond measure through her gentle and caring ways.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents Katherine and Colonel Bernard Grant Parks, and grandmother “Nana”, Kathryn McGrady She is survived by her three children: son, Hugh Lee Malone, III and his wife Kathleen, and grandchildren Ryan Malone and Kristen Malone; daughter, Kelly Elizabeth Ventimiglia and husband Vincent, and grandson Donovan Ventimiglia and wife Kavita, and great granddaughter Fable J. Ventimiglia, and grandson Dalton Ventimiglia; son, Michael Byron Malone and wife Belinda, and granddaughter Heather Malone, and grandson Michael Byron Malone Jr., and Kylee Keller, and great granddaughter Scout Kennedy Malone; her sister Carol and husband David Pinkus of Maybank, Texas, and their children Tami Horn and husband Ken, and children Hunter and Hudsyn, and Justin Pinkus; cousins Lynn Knoblauch and Mark and wife Kenna Knoblauch. Kay had many dear friends whose kindness and care were treasured. We thank the many “Angels” who help others and their families in their time of need: Home Instead, Visiting Angels, and Kaiser Medical Center Hospice.
Kay had a great sense of fellowship to others. She was often referenced as caring, thoughtful, and a trusted friend. She always remembered the special dates of others, and made sure to reach out and let them know they were thought of. With deep loss and great love and regard for the amazing force she held in our lives, we celebrate her life.
May the winds of Heaven blow softly and whisper in your ear, how much we love and miss you, and wish you were here…
