Mary was born in the family home on Henry St. in Buchanan, NY on November 25, 1929 to the late Harry and Anna (Orenbach) Malles as well as all of her brothers and sisters. She and her husband built their family’s home across the Street in 1965 and she is one of a few Buchanan Residents left that were born in the Village and lived their whole lives here.
She worked for NY Telephone/Verizon for over 31 years as an Operator on Brown St, Peekskill and then for Telephone Repair Service in White Plains. As well as working for the NY Telephone she was the "M" of T&M Deli in Buchanan for 16 years and an Avon Representative for over 55 years where she made many friends.
Mary was always ready for an adventure whether it was traveling to Europe or many places around the Country. She was a Balloon Handler for the Macy's Day Parade several times. She enjoyed being a Member of the Buchanan Seniors Club and her favorite past time was going to the Casino. Mary was friendly person and many people had the pleasure of calling her “Mom”. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Mary is survived by her loving children, Theresa and George Knickerbocker; caring brother George Malles and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, George Knickerbocker, brothers, John and Harry Malles and sisters, Georgia Frye, Anna Niwinski and Margret Kiley.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 from 2-6pm and Thursday, December 29th from 4-8pm at the EDWARD F. CARTER FUNERAL HOME, 170 Kings Ferry Rd., Montrose, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:15am on Friday, December 30th at Holy Spirit Church in Cortlandt Manor, NY. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery also in Cortlandt Manor.
