L’ancienne journaliste et recherchiste Virginie Boulanger s’est éteinte le jeudi 10 novembre 2022 à Longueuil à l’âge de 89 ans des suites d’une insuffisance cardiaque.
Elle était une pionnière du journalisme féminin québécois.
Femme de cœur et d’esprit, Virginie Boulanger a en effet connu une brillante carrière d’une quarantaine d’années dans les médias, d’abord au Réveil de Jonquière, puis au Devoir, au Petit Journal, à La Patrie, à Point de mire, à Québec-Presse, à Radio-Québec, à Télé-Québec et à Radio-Canada, particulièrement aux émissions Présent, L’Événement et Dimanche Magazine, où elle a contribué pendant plusieurs années à la Revue de presse internationale de la Communauté des radios publiques de langue française.
Elle s’est surtout intéressée, tout au long de sa carrière, aux secteurs de la littérature et de la politique québécoises et à l’évolution de la mouvance souverainiste.
Membre fondatrice de la Fédération professionnelle des journalistes et proche collaboratrice de journalistes et d’animateurs réputés comme Pierre Nadeau, Pierre Maisonneuve, Réginald Martel, Michel Pelland, Keith Spicer et Gérald Godin, elle a également été l’auteure dans les années 1970 d’une percutante couverture du « Procès des cinq » et du fameux Dossier Z de la Fédération professionnelle des journalistes – sur les interventions policières et judiciaires dans le travail des journalistes pendant et après la Crise d’octobre.
Elle avait auparavant effectué des stages dans plusieurs médias français en vertu des premiers Accords France-Québec, et longuement voyagé dans de nombreux pays européens des confins de la Scandinavie et de la Laponie jusqu’au sud de l’Union soviétique, ce qui n’était pas commun à l’époque.
Généreuse, socialement engagée, Virginie Boulanger a fourni de nombreuses contributions à L’aut’journal, à Point de mire et à diverses autres publications à caractère politique ou historique, notamment au sujet de Michel Chartrand et d’autres personnages marquants de l’époque. Elle a également consacré énormément de temps, après sa retraite au tournant du siècle, à des activités de bénévolat, particulièrement auprès des Petits Frères des pauvres.
Née à Sainte-Marie de Beauce, Virginie Boulanger était la fille de Joseph Onésime Boulanger et de Marie-Yvette Bilodeau, et la sœur de Marielle et de Carmen Boulanger, qui l’ont précédée dans l’au-delà.
Elle laisse pour pleurer sa perte son fils Yann Béliveau, sa fille Kim Béliveau (Dave Cummings), ses petits-fils Timothée, Hugo et Éloi Béliveau et Thomas Béliveau-Cummings, ses frères et sœurs Yvan et Clément (eux-mêmes anciens journaliste et photographe de presse respectivement) et Germain, Érika, Janis, Paula et Ettevy Boulanger, plusieurs neveux et nièces, dont Marc, Geneviève et Danielle Boulanger (Danial) et Judith MacDonald, ses grandes amies Ginette Leduc, Thérèse Béliveau et Pauline Vaillancourt, de nombreux autres parents, amis et collègues, et son ancien époux et père de ses enfants, le journaliste et professeur de journalisme André Béliveau.
Tous ceux qui l’ont aimée sont invités à venir la saluer une dernière fois lors d’une rencontre d’adieu qui aura lieu le dimanche 18 décembre, de 14 h à 18 h, au Centre funéraire Côte-des-Neiges, 4525, chemin de la Côte-des-Neiges, à Montréal.
