Sheila was an indomitable and courageous person who lived her life in accord with her strong social values. She grew up in rural Manitoba where she developed her love of gardening, animals and the outdoors. She completed her secondary education in the UK, her mother’s homeland, before returning to Canada and taking a job with the Manitoba Government. She worked in Regina, Winnipeg, and Montreal as a producer for the CBC and then as the Director of Communications for Alliance Quebec. She returned to Toronto as as a senior policy advisor in the Ministry of Intergovernmental Affairs and a policy advisor to then Ontario premier Bob Rae. In 2000, she was appointed as the director of communications for the McGill University Health Centre where she was responsible for all communications for the MUHC’s six hospitals, from which she retired in 2009. She loved art, theatre and music, cherished the company of family and friends, all of whom have sat at her dinner table and enjoyed her passion for cooking. She possessed a creative and inquiring mind that engaged her in politics, good books, and great, animated discussions.
Sheila received exceptional care throughout her illness at The Centre Hospitalier Antoine Labelle in Rivière Rouge and the CLSC Labelle. She will be greatly missed.
