Mary passed away peacefully, after a long and well lived life, on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at St. Margaret’s Residence, at the age of 96.
She was the devoted daughter of the late Mary and Andrew Soch and the caring older sister of the late Andy Soch Jr. (Mary Haburaj)
Mary met and married the love of her life, Michael Gresko, in 1946 and they shared 43 happily married years together, until his death in 1990. They were an amazing team who enjoyed travelling, sharing social events with their many friends and hosting wonderful family dinners.
She was a nurturing and loving mother to her two daughters, Janie Jennings and Mandy (Marvin Werbitt). She was also blessed with three grandsons whom she adored, Michael Bort (Genna Solomon), Jeremy Werbitt (Genevieve Payne) and Jonathan Werbitt (Patricia Moraga). She was the great-grandmother to Willow and Phoenix Bort, Jaclyn and Nathaniel Werbitt and the late Bradley Werbitt.
She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her nieces Pat Sadler, Marlene Michaelsen, Deborah (Joe Angelus) and her nephews Brian and Ken Soch (Adriana Simoes) and her godson, Sebastian Soch.
Mary spent many years as a dedicated elementary school teacher. She derived great satisfaction from working with young children and teaching them how to read and write. She often looked back and talked fondly about her teaching career well into her old age.
She was hard working and responsible. You could always count on her to lend a helping hand. She had grace, beauty and a heart of gold. She was a fabulous hostess and an excellent cook. Family dinners were always fun events. She was creative and enjoyed painting. She was warm and funny and made friends easily. In her later years she enjoyed playing Bingo and doing the Wonderword in the newspaper. She made everyone’s world a better place and shared her caring spirit with everyone she loved.
The family would like to thank her extremely loving companion, Melody Nepomuceno, who cared for Mary for many years before she moved to St. Margaret’s Residence. We would also like to thank the dedicated and caring staff of the 3rd Floor at St. Margaret’s, who made Mary’s last two years as happy and comfortable as they could.Their kindness and compassion will always be remembered.
We are so grateful that we were blessed to have this special woman in our lives for so many years.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory can be made to the charity of your choice.
