2022, where she continued to live an active and independent life up until her 89th
year. Predeceased by her brother Cesare Di Vito, she is the daughter of Serafino
Di Vito and Antonia Filauri.
Born in central Italy in a small Apennine town of Forme (Massa d'Albe) beneath
the slopes of Monte Velino, Aquila, Abruzzo, she migrated first to Rome where
she worked and raised a family for many years before immigrating to Montreal,
Canada. From a family of merchants, she crossed the Atlantic in search of the
Canadian Dream, where she exercised her business acumen alongside her
devoted husband Giacomo Antonio.
For many years she worked at the Julius Richardson Convalescent Hospital
where she made lifelong friends. Later, with her closest paesana Giuseppina
Lucci, she returned until age 86 to volunteer at the Henri Bradet Recreation Day
Center for seniors, and ended her activities just before the outbreak of Covid-19.
The anchor and matriarch of our family, she will forever be cherished in our
hearts. Her beautiful smile was happiest when surrounded by her family at the
dinner table, her core values a strong work ethic and the unity of the family.
Fiercely proud of her roots in a military family, she would often recount how
refugees sought shelter from WW II aerial bombings in their loft, while the
Germans occupying the town would patronize the family run Bottega downstairs.
Her mantra was to always help others.
It gives us great peace to know that she is being reunited with her beloved late
husband, Giacomo Antonio Pendenza. She is survived by her daughter Giuliana,
her son-in-law Keith, (her former son-in-law, Terry Fontana), her loving son
Serafino and daughter-in-law Lois, her beloved five grandchildren Derrick
(Laura), Christopher (Andra), Andrew (Shannon), Jonathan (Victoria), Stephanie
(Aryeh), as well as her treasured great-grandson, Nico. She is survived by
her two sisters in Italy, Elide (Angelo)and Ida. Will also be sorely missed by her
Di Vito family in Mississauga and by fellow Formese in Italy, Toronto, and
Montreal.
The family will receive condolences on Monday, April 18th, from 2-5pm in the
Salle des Érables at the Centre Funéraire Côte-des-Neiges, 4525 Ch. de la Côte
-des-Neiges, Montreal, QC H3V 1E7. Funeral services will be held on April 19th

H4B 1A8, followed by interment at Saint-Pierre et Saint-Paul mausoleum at Côte
