She will be remembered as a loving sister to her younger brother Ross, doting Aunt to Heather Ann and Lorraine (Aaron), Great Aunt to Alex, Rylee, Cameron and Sawyer, and a Great-Great Aunt to Tyrian. She was also a dear Godmother to Cheryl Guthrie and Cody Carson. She will be lovingly remembered by her extended family and cousins in the Carson/Gardiner/Macdonald/ Clans.
The "Divine Miss M", "Bonzarelli" will be greatly missed by her lifelong friends who were her "sisters".
Bonnie was born and raised in Montreal West. Her career and love of travel took her far and wide, but Montreal was always her home.
Beginning in her early 20's, Bonnie started with Alcan where she was highly regarded and respected all over the world for her enterprising business savvy. Over the years she had various career ventures: operating a boarding house out of her family home, enrolling in nursing school, working for a prestigious interior design company, until finally retiring after 16 years as an Administrative Assistant from The United Theological College. She received many accolades over the years, including the Companion Of The College award and the Bonnie Macdonald Book Award which is presented annually.
As much as she loved to explore the world, she enjoyed the simple, quiet life too: mornings with her coffee and working on the Gazette Cryptic crossword, entertaining family and friends with pots of perfected homemade soups or Chalet BBQ ("soggy bear"), afternoons (or long evenings) of playing games, "Yan-tzee" or Skip-Bo, two of her favourites! She enjoyed evenings out for dinner and going to the theatre or taking in a movie. She was an avid reader, always with a cuppa tea and twizzlers beside her, whiling away the hours.
One of her favourite spots was Beaver Lake. Many a happy memory was created there, picnicking, laughing, enjoying the sunshine and gentle breezes, with family and friends. "The Halcyon Days, Auntie Bobo".
With her dry wit and unique sense of humour, and a smile that made her beautiful blue eyes twinkle, she will be missed by all who knew and loved her dearly.
A big heartfelt thank you to the 6th Floor South Staff, at St. Mary's Hospital. Everything they did for (auntie) Bonnie, while she was in their care, is greatly appreciated.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Bonnie, organised by the family, in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish to do so, contributions in Bonnie’s memory can be made to the Montreal West Public Library that Bonnie cherished:
