It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Barbara Salonen (married name Fox) on Saturday, November 27th, 2021 at the age of 84. Barbara passed away peacefully in her sleep after a brave battle with illness.
Barbara is survived by her daughter Leslie, sister Carole, niece Janet, nephew Trevor and ex-husband Michael (father of Leslie). She is pre-deceased by her parents, Vera and Albert. She is pre-deceased by her parents, Vera and Albert. Barbara cultivated many great friendships throughout her lifetime, because she was a great friend and an inspiration. She will be deeply missed.
Barbara will be remembered for her strength of character, her sweet nature, and her quirky sense of fun and adventure; she lived her life to the fullest. Such qualities provided the foundation for her many talents and successes in athletics, academics, and her dual careers in Computer Science and Fine Arts. She was also intelligent and forthright. She had a long career as a computer programmer, computer science lecturer, Computing Newsletter Editor and Project Manager at McGill University; balancing this with being a single mother and an award-winning professional artist. Her paintings have been shown in many galleries including the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and Les Galeries Luminis. She was an active member of the Women’s Art Society, Art’s Mana and much more.
There will be an in-person and virtual celebration of her life on December 10th at the Collins Clarke Funeral home (Sherbrooke Street branch) at 1 p.m. You may view the livestream by following the link below: https://funeraweb.tv/diffusions/42096
Barbara will be forever in her daughter’s heart. May her spirit continue to shine brightly on those who knew her.
