Mr. Miller was born on May 4, 1938 in Todd, North Carolina. He graduated from Beaver Creek High School in West Jefferson, NC in 1956 and went on to attend Appalachian State College for two years after which time he joined the U.S. Army for six years. After his tenure with the Army, in joined the U.S. Air Force and graduated from McKendree College of Lebanon, Illinois with a degree in business. He retired with the rank of Master Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force at Gunter AFB in 1980. He continued his studies and pursued a career in computer science with the U.S. Department of the Air Force at Gunter AFB. Mr. Miller enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling., exploring new restaurants, yard sales, and flea markets. He enjoyed meeting his friends at the Waffle House for many years.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of almost 32 years, Sara Katherine Berry Miller; his daughters, Stephanie Miller of Greensboro, NC and Jennifer Miller Boyle (Neil) of North Caldwell, NJ; two grandsons, Sean Mitchell Boyle and Samuel Miller Boyle of North Caldwell, NJ.
Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben Patterson and Chessie Graham Miller of Todd, NC; his brothers, John D. Miller (Jimmie) of Tifton, GA; Max Miller (Irene) of Boone, NC; Henry Miller of Mt. Airy, NC; Winston Miller of Todd, NC; four sisters, Margaret Miller (Jake) of Boone, NC; Jean Miller Jones (Tommy) of Boone, NC; Alice Gilley of Hickory, NC and Billie Hodges (Fred) of Hickory, NC.
Other survivors include his sister-in-law, Dawn Miller of Mt. Airy, NC; his brothers-in-law include William Franklin Berry (Meril) of Troy, AL and Charles Alexander Berry of Banks, AL; sister-in-law, Linda Jones Townsend (Andrew) of Troy, AL; a very special cousin, Mary Janet Blackmon of Lawrenceville, GA. Also, the family wishes to thank Jandolyn Barber for her untiring friendship and love to Zack throughout his illness. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Also, the family wishes to express their sincerest thanks and gratitude to the staff at Baptist Medical Center East, the staff at Encompass, and the staff at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Amedisys Home Health as well as Able Home Care Service for their tireless assistance during the family's time of need.

The Reverend Nan Adams, pastor of Providence Presbyterian Church, Montgomery, AL will officiate at the service. Visitation is planned for December 12, at 12:00 noon at Leak Memory Funeral Home in Montgomery with a graveside service along with military honors to follow at 1:30 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery.
