Tommy was born April 2, 1942 to William and Mabel Davis in Montgomery. He attended Lee High School and served in the US Army Reserves. His career was spent in maintenance at Appleton Wireworks, where he took as much pride in the lawn as he did with his own at home. He met Jean one night when he happened to drive by her house where she was outside with her brothers. One look, and he circled back to talk to her. A few months later, he introduced her to his mother as his wife. Family summers were always spent at the beach, even up to a couple of years ago.
After his retirement, he took care of his grandchildren during the day with Jean and then took care of Jean during her illness, hardly ever leaving her side. Tommy never met a stranger, as evident by the one year he sold more than 400 boxes of Girl Scout cookies for his daughter. An avid Alabama fan, Tommy loved watching football and listening to music while sitting in his La-Z-Boy. He also looked forward to his daily phone calls with his brother and his daughters and took pictures at birthday parties and Christmas.
He is survived by his daughters Jeri (Lamar) Smith and Cindy (Matt) Strickland, his grandchildren Tripp and Taylor (Kalee) Smith and Jack and Lucy Strickland, his great-granddaughter Brylee Smith, and his brother Ronnie (Irene) Davis.
Visitation will be at 9 am at Leak Memory with a graveside service to follow at 10 in Greenwood Cemetery with Caleb Strickland officiating. While we will miss Tommy dearly, we are comforted knowing we will keep his gentle, caring spirit with us in our hearts forever.
