William Kenneth Chance, known to all as Woody, passed away on April 30, 2020. He was 78 years old. He was a longtime resident of Hope Hull, Alabama. He died peacefully at home after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was preceded in death by his son, William Alan Chance, and his granddaughter, Allison Dawn Little.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Chance; his son Kenneth Chance (Denise), daughter Mary Ann Miller (Martin), and daughter Susan Wynn (Carey). He was proudly known as “Paw Paw Woody” by his grandchildren; Matthew Little, Erin White (Matt), Courtney Wynn, Ryan Wynn, and Melissa Chance. He has one great grandchild Cashton Dominguez.
He was born October 19, 1941, in Autaugaville, Alabama. He proudly served his country in the U.S Army. He completed three tours in Vietnam. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army. Woody and Mary married in 1967. They settled down in Hope Hull, Alabama and raised their family.
Woody worked as a welder, fitter, foreman and shop supervisor during his career. He was able to fulfill his lifelong dream of starting his own company in 2001. He started Metal Benders Incorporated located in Hope Hull, Alabama. This company was his dream and he worked tirelessly to establish it as a success. His customers all knew that Woody was a man of his word. He was honest and hardworking. He also loved swapping stories with the guys that worked at the shop.
Woody was loved deeply by his family and will be missed greatly. Thank you to all the friends, family, caregivers and hospice personnel that so lovingly stood by his side during his battle with Parkinson disease.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Sardi Church of Christ Cemetery in Highland Home, Alabama.
