Ruby Davis Davis Johnston

Johnston, Ruby Davis (Mema), age 93, stepped peacefully into Heaven on Sunday, June 22, 2014, in Montgomery, Alabama. Ruby was born January 9, 1921, in Moundville, Alabama, the daughter of Beatty Dixon Davis and Margaret Jane Davis.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur Johnston. Ruby and Arthur were married September 10, 1939. They were happily married until Arthur’s death in 1994.

She was also preceded in death by her eight siblings, George Davis, Harvey Davis, Willie Bell Davis, Annie Lou DeFreese, Benny Davis, Grace Evelyn Davis, Dot Stripling and Mabel King.

Her survivors include, one daughter, Sharon Dianne Johnston Self and husband, Dr.

Lee Vann Self, Montgomery, Alabama; one granddaughter, Robyn LeeAnn Self Palmer and grandson-in-law, Kerry James Palmer and two great-grandchildren, LeeAnn Michelle Palmer and James Benton Palmer, Montgomery, Alabama and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express appreciation to all her caregivers at Crowne Nursing Facility and Comfort Care Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be

A family graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Moundville, AL.
