Brown, Richard Evans, Sr., MD- It is with sorrow the family of Richard Evans Brown Sr., MD, announces his death on Saturday, February 27, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Wood Brown; three sons, Richard E. (Rick) Brown Jr. (Michele), Randal W. Brown Sr. (Carol), Rodney C. Brown; five grandchildren, Evans Brown, Bailey Brown, Randal Brown, Jr., Taylor Brown, Elizabeth Anne Brown; his brother Robert A. Brown, as well as several nieces and nephews. Dr. Brown graduated from the Medical College of Alabama in 1961. After graduation, he served in the United States Air Force and was Chief of Ophthalmology at Maxwell General Hospital in Montgomery. After serving in the military, Dr. Brown was a founding partner of 20/20 Ophthalmic Associates and practiced medicine in Montgomery for more than thirty years. Dr. Brown was past president of the Medical Alumni Association of the University of Alabama Birmingham and past Chief of Staff at Baptist Hospital. He was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the Royal Society of Medicine-London, England, and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Brown was a board member of numerous organizations in Montgomery. Camp ASCCA was especially close to his heart because of its mission to serve individuals that are physically challenged. He was an active member of St. James United Methodist Church and the Stanley Frazer Sunday school class. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James United Methodist Church Building Fund (9045 Vaugh Road, Pike Road Alabama 36064) or to Camp ASCCA (P.O. Box 21, 5278 Camp ASCCA Dr., Jackson's Gap, AL 36861). A celebration of Dr Brown’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at St. James United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. in the Chapel with services following at 1:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Graveside services will follow at Alabama Heritage cemetery.
