Nancy S. Downs

Our dear mother, Nancy Downs, sadly passed away on Saturday, `December 21, 2024, at the age of 76, in her home surrounded by loved ones. Nancy has won her battle against Alzheimer’s and is now in the arms of the Lord. She was a wonderful mom who was always there when we needed her the most, offering support, wisdom, and an abundance of love. She devoted her life to her children and her three grandchildren, whom they referred to her as “Gamma”.

She was born and raised in Jamestown, New York to Milton and Marjorie Smith. She lived an adventurous life. She moved to California in 1975 and studied at UC Santa Barbara, before settling down in Montgomery, Alabama in 1987. She then met her husband, Robert Downs, and they built a life together with their children. She attended Taylor Road Baptist Church for many years, where she grew in her faith with the Lord.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, Milton and Marjorie Smith, her husband of sixteen years, Robert Downs, and son, John Patrick.

She is survived by her son, Robert Downs, daughter, Jennifer Dickey (Dalon), and her three grandsons, John Dickey, Aaron Dickey, and Rigby Dickey. She also leaves behind two fur babies, Jesse and Sonny.

The family would like to express their gratitude towards a special caregiver, Lynn Arrington, for being a bright light to mom every day. They also want to thank Amedisys Hospice for their constant love and care over the last 13 months, with special recognition to her nurse, Tiffany Dawson.

A private service will be held with Dean Finch officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may made to the Montgomery Humane Society.
