Adams, Max Clark died at Jackson Hospital on Friday, August 17, after a brief illness. He was born in Andalusia, AL on July 8, 1924 to Walter and Corine Adams. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Hal and his sister Jeanette. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce Polke Adams; children, Gary Max Adams (Curry) of Mobile; Janice Adams Mills (Craig) of Montgomery; Darrell David Adams (Theresa) of Memphis; and Jeff Alan Adams of Nashville; five grandchildren Ashley Adams Davidson (Richard), Robyn Mills Wiggins (Troy), Kristen Mills Dolberg (Mike), Daniel Adams (Kathryn), and Adam Mills (Aimee); one great-granddaughter, Massey Davidson and one great-grandson, Adam Mills Jr., who was born the day before Max died.
He willingly served his country in the Army Air Corps 5th Division Air Force, Pacific Theatre, as a bombardier during World War II. After his military service he graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Architecture. In 1950, he married his bride Joyce, and together they raised four children. He retired from Maxwell Air Force Base as Base Architect in 1986. Max was first and foremost a strong Christian. His dedication to his faith determined his actions and made him the ultimate husband, father, patriot, and friend. He was never too busy to throw a ball or attend a recital and consistently encouraged his children and grandchildren to be their best. He and Joyce were faithful members of Eastern Hills Baptist Church where he was a former deacon and Sunday School teacher. Max was an avid Auburn football fan who regularly attended home games and passionately followed his team’s recruiting. He also enjoyed fishing. He delighted in teaching his children and grandchildren the proper fundamentals of sports.
A memorial service of celebration will be held on Wednesday, August 22, at 2:00 PM at Leak-Memory Chapel in Montgomery. Visitation will be held one hour before the service.
