Margaret Olive Cannon Jones, 90 and known to all as MO, died June 18, 2017. Born December 31, 1926, she was the second of 4 children of Tom and Ivy McCabe Cannon. She graduated from St. Mary of Loretto in 1944, and married John Henry Jones in November 1949. She retired from Hill, Hill Carter on her 65th birthday but returned one day a week for 15 more years. Widowed in 1993, she was a busy volunteer at the soup kitchen, the thrift store, Adoration Chapel, and Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School, where she had helped start the Alumni Association and the Nowadays newsletter, and was awarded the Charles Harbin Service Award in 1998. She was an active member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church for more than 80 years. She was actively involved with the ACCW and Montgomery Deanery and, like her mother, was honored with the Papal medal, Pro Ecclesia Et Pontifice, for service to the Church. Declining health resulted in a move to Atlanta in 2011, but she remained a Montgomerian at heart.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathey Bradford and her husband Dave of Madison, and Peggy Jones of Atlanta; her grandchildren Caroline Goodwin and her husband Rob of Huntsville, Stephen Bradford of Chattanooga, and John Bradford of Madison. Preceded in death by her siblings Tommy Cannon and Bebe Taylor, she is also survived by her brother Jimmy (Bull) Cannon and Josie Duke, her brothers-in-law Marty Taylor and Jimmy Jones, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held at Leak Memory on Friday June 23 at 6:00 with wake service beginning at 7:00. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Saturday at 2:00, with burial at St. Margaret’s Cemetery. Rather than flowers, please consider a memorial to an organization that is meaningful to you.
