Larry Mack Phillips

Larry Mack Phillips passed away on January 26, 2024 at the age of 84 surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his father A.P., mother Eunice, brother Bill, and daughter Vicki. Mack, as he liked to be called, is survived by his wonderful wife of 62 years Nancy, daughter Angela, grandchildren: Travis, Casey, and Hannah, and great-grandchild Harrison.

Mack was born in Trenton, Tennessee in April of 1939. As a young man he met the love of his life, Nancy. He joined the Army working in communications and was sent to Germany where he and Nancy married and had their beautiful daughter Vicki. They moved back to the United States and had their second daughter Angela, eventually ending up in Montgomery, Alabama in 1980. He retired as a Master Sergeant E-8 having served two tours in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. He was awarded several medals and badges for his heroism and achievements: Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Double Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Expert Badge and Rifle bar, Sharpshooter Badge and Carbine bar, and also a Marksman Badge and carbine bar. Mack went on to work for the Forest Service retiring after 20 years. He couldn’t stand being retired so he went to work for the Montgomery Police Department and then to the State of Alabama Department of Transportation where he officially decided to retire for good.

Mack loved to sit outside with his wife and their fur-baby Lucky. He enjoyed repairing watches and tinkering with old electronics, always having to be doing something. As a devout Christian he enjoyed attending service as a member of Perry Hill Road Baptist Church. Mack was a proud Mason always trying to make a good man better by being a hard worker. A jokester who loved to make people laugh and smile, Mack was a loved man who will be greatly missed.

His family will honor his life in a small private ceremony.
