Kathy was a beautiful wife, mother and recent grandmother and a wonderful inspiration to many friends and family. She medically retired from being a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Montgomery Eye Surgery Center and Jackson Hospital and courageously fought a 10 year battle with Primary Peritoneal Cancer. She deeply loved the Lord, her family and always had a smile and positive outlook. She would often comfort others by saying “Don’t be sad for me for my last breath on Earth will be my first breath in Heaven.” She was an active member of Frazer Church with a blessed voice and met her husband singing in the choir.
Kathy had a love for animals and trained the winner of the 1976 Racking Horse World Celebration Championship. There were always dogs around her house from Brussels Griffons to Great Danes.
Kathy is survived by her husband Steve of 42 years; two daughters, Dr. Kinley Beck and Karlin (Ryan) Aultman; and recently welcomed grandson Wallace Graves Aultman. She was preceded in death by her father; Robert A. Avinger, and her mother Nell Graves Avinger. Kathy was born in Louisville KY and was adopted at birth. At age 65, she learned of her birth mother, Ruth Broyles, who had passed away. Surviving siblings are Brenda Parker Alexander (Rick), Sandy Parker Lawless (Lyle), Ralph Broyles (Lisa) and Carol Broyles Wilcox who all live in the Louisville, KY area.
The family expresses our sincere gratitude to Dr. Judi Jehle, Dr. Don Marshall (deceased), Dr. Max Capouano and especially Dr. Charles “Trey” Leath and the Staff of the University of Alabama Medical Center who provided professional and compassionate care for her battle with cancer.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
