She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, John J. Bird; her parents; and her siblings, John J. Diffly III and Wilma Ann Diffly. She is survived by her children, John J. (Tracy) Bird, Sharon Bird, Mike (Allison) Bird, Mark (Laura) Bird; her grandchildren, Jordan Bird, Jonesy Bird (Joey Bradley), Joli (Ryan) Pinkham, Michael (Collins) Bird II, Amber Bird and Diffly Bird; her great grandchildren, Maddie Bradley, Lily Bradley, Rosie Bradley and Allen Bird; and her sister, Diane A. Diffly.
A member of St. Bede's Catholic Church, she will be remembered more for her role outside the church as the school patrol officer. Hired by the Montgomery Police Department, she was known as "the Lady of St. Bede's" as she kept the children safe in the busy traffic. An Alabama fan who loved to cook for her family, she didn't use recipes, but cooked by how the batter felt and how the gravy looked. She loved her children but doted on her grands. And lest we forget, she loved her dog, Boo.
Pallbearers will be John Bird Jr., Mike Bird, Mark Bird, Michael Bird and Diffly Bird.
