Dan has been second father figure and brother to me since I was 18 months old. Such fond campaign memories, and never knew him to miss a single day of the rodeo. Hero to so many. We are so sad but celebrating you are together whole and healthy with Sister, Ruby Duby

Dan was a wonderful man and a much loved neighbor by the entire Averett family.  Our prayers are with you all for comfort and strength.  He will certainly be missed.

The world is losing one of its wonderful angels in Dan.  He and Carol together were certainly angels in my life.  I will always remember his bear hugs and quick smile.  I was secure in my youth knowing such a stalwart man was always in my corner if and when I needed him!  He and Carol were so special to our family and true lifelong friends to my parents.   I smile thinking of them shouting a big Waaaar Eagle in heaven!!!!

Dear family,
We are all saddened by Dan's passing. He was a kind and loving man. Always gracious and welcoming to he and Carol's home. We loved visiting with them and enjoying the BBQ's, especially the smoked pulled pork, when we were back in Alabama for visits with family. He is loved and admired by many. Dan will be greatly missed.

My condolences to Dan's family.  He was a good friend, Sheriff and neighbor.  He was a true Southern Gentleman in every way.  He was my Sheriff when I was a Deputy with MCSO.   He will truly be missed.  Good Christian man also.  His spirit is now with our Lord Jesus Christ.

I am so sorry to hear this and shall pray for Dan's family during this most difficult time.  Dan was a friend of my brother-in-law while in high school at Lanier.  Dan was a long time friend and great person.  We shared love for Auburn and Lanier along with many years as members of Ridgecrest Baptist Church together.   Dan and I served on the Board of Directors at Girls Ranch at Camp Hill years ago.  I shall miss him and his great smile and that powerful hand shake!

He is "home" with the Lord and his love ones!
