Averett, Horace Dillard, age 91, a resident of Pike Road, Alabama passed away on October 18, 2012. He was a 30 year veteran of the U.S. Military serving during World War II and the Korean conflict. After his retirement from the military, he worked for Alabama Gas Corporation for 15 years. He was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, Alcazar Shrine Temple and a Mason. He is survived by Maude Parker Averett, his wife of 68 years, 5 daughters: Janet Averett Holmes, Jeanne Averett Blake, Faye Averett Gilbert (Jerry), Joy Averett Baker and Stacy Averett Free (Tony), 6 grandchildren: Lisa Holmes McKelvey (Rush), Julie Holmes Apel (Hank), Lewis Dale Blake (Crystal), Carey Averett Blake (Kelley), Christopher Alan Gilbert (Hilary) and Katherine Leigh Gilbert and 9 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday, October 22nd at 10:00 am at Leak Memory Chapel with the service following at 11:00 am.
