G.E. was born to Venola Tucker Middlebrooks and George Ervin Middlebrooks in Fitzpatrick, Alabama and grew up in Union Springs and Moundville with his grandmother Martha Gray and family friend Ford Wiggins.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, JoAnna Tubbs Middlebrooks, their children and grandchildren: Mark, Alison, McKenzie, Morgan Chandler, GeorgAnna, and EmmaJane.
G.E. served his country from 1963 to 1965 as a Military Police Officer in Korea during the Vietnam Era. He was designated as a sharpshooter with a pistol and a rifle. He was always highly respected by his fellow service members.
Following his military service, G.E. worked with the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the Farmers' Home Administration. He was a congregate housing specialist for the State of Alabama and helped with rural development including water works, libraries, and housing for the elderly.
G.E. was well known in the community for his service and kindness. He and his wife were active members of the Wesley Bible Study group at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He always stayed busy. In his free time you could find him fixing up his "yacht", taking care of the trees he planted at the church, pressure washing almost any surface around town, or writing sweet letters to his friends and family.
