Fred Tyson Sr.

A graduate of Trinity Presbyterian School, the University of Alabama and the Cumberland School of Law, Tyson earned numerous awards and commendations during his forty-year career in defense of doctors and hospitals with the firm of Rushton Stakely. He was recognized by his fellow attorneys with acceptance into both the American Board of Trial Advocates and the American College of Trial Lawyers and had served as head of each organization’s state chapters.

He was a devoted member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, where he served as Sr. Warden, and an active and loyal member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon social fraternity. Tyson also was a long-time board member of the Metro YMCA, Hospice of Montgomery and the Montgomery Country Club, where he cherished his relationships with its wonderful staff. He served many years on the University of Alabama’s President’s Cabinet.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 43 years, Florence Culver Tyson; A daughter, Allyson Tyson Mouron and her husband, Lewis; two sons, Fred White “Ty” Tyson, Jr. and his wife, Melisa and Thomas Martin Tyson II and his wife, Bradshaw; his mother, Alice Hollon Tyson; two brothers, Thomas Martin Tyson, Jr. and his wife, Martha and John Walter Tyson and eight grandchildren, Fred, Gardner, Tyson, Annie, Anne Culver, Tommy, Bridges and Henry.

The Revs. Deonna Neal, Rich Webster and Robert Wisnewski will conduct funeral services Friday, June 10 at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the parish house. Burial will follow in Greenwood cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home, Thursday from 4:30 to 6:30.

Pallbearers will be Mike Dunn, Steve Humphrey, Charles Harris, Idus Brendle, John Williams, Spook Oldacre and Fletcher Gibson. Honorary pallbearers will be the law partners at Rushton Stakely.

As active as he was in his profession and in service to his church and community, Fred most enjoyed spending time outdoors at his farm and Lake Martin with his many close friends and large family. He was a man of integrity and compassion – a True Gentleman. It’s for certain he’ll be watching the Tide this fall from the good seats.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church, Children’s Harbor or a charity of your choice.
